Mattress Disposal Guide

Scope of Works

• Pre‑book & confirm size – single, double, king or boxed bed‑in‑a‑bag.

• Load from property (van, tail‑lift or stair carry) with protective bags.

• Issue waste‑transfer note & note landfill diversion route (recycling or energy‑from‑waste).

• Transport to licensed facility; strip springs, foam and fabric for recycling.

• Clean up area – sweep hallway/drive, remove stray staples or dust.

• Optional extras – multiple mattresses, bed‑frame dismantle, same‑day/early‑morning slot.
  

Typical Cost (inc. VAT, 2025)

Time on Site

• Typical: 10 – 20 minutes for ground‑floor pickup.

• Longer: tight stairs, multiple items, or wait for lift access.

• Whole‑day window: rural routes or council collections using set rounds.
  

Questions to Ask Your Trade

1. Are you a licensed waste carrier and will I get a waste‑transfer note?

2. Is the quote per mattress or per load, and does size affect cost?

3. What surcharge applies for stairs, flats without lifts or awkward access?

4. Do you recycle or landfill, and can you provide evidence?

5. What time window will the crew arrive and do they call ahead?

6. Is packaging supplied, or must I bag the mattress myself?

7. Will you take the base/frame at the same visit and what’s the extra fee?
   

How to Avoid Surprises

• Measure doorways & clear routes before pickup to avoid extra labour time.

• Bag or wrap the mattress if it’s soiled – many crews refuse wet items.

• Reserve parking close to the door for the van (permit if needed).

• Confirm building rules for lift use or out‑of‑hours noise.

• Check local council price first – some charge as low as £35 per item.

• Photograph the mattress pre‑collection for proof if claiming airline/hotel damage.
