• trim sides and top to agreed profile using hand tools and powered cutters

• reduce height or thin crowns where requested, removing larger branches as needed

• remove deadwood and cross‑growing stems to improve health and airflow

• chip small arisings on site and load larger cuttings for disposal or client removal

• check for bird nests and stop work if active nests are found; use PPE and secure work area

Most single‑run domestic conifer trims take 1–4 hours for a typical garden hedge up to 10–15 m; taller, overgrown or multiple hedges can take 1–2 days. Time is extended by poor access, vehicle parking restrictions, significant deadwood removal, active bird nests, or the need for scaffold or a mechanical lift

• are you insured for tree work and public liability and can you provide documents

• what experience do you have with conifer hedges of this height and length

• will you remove arisings and do you charge extra for disposal or chipping

• do you need scaffolding, a cherry picker or traffic management for this job

• how will you protect fences, lawns and close garden features during work

• can you confirm timing around bird nesting season and any statutory restrictions

• clear a safe work area and remove children's toys and garden furniture beforehand

• check for conservation area or tree protection orders with the council
