Scope of Works

• Inspect site, measure area and check levels

• strip turf/topsoil where required and remove spoil

• install or repair edging restraints to retain chippings

• lay and trim a weed membrane and overlap as needed

• supply, spread and rake slate chippings (typically 20–40mm) and compact where required

• tidy site, sweep paths and remove waste and packaging

• use PPE and basic dust control where cutting or spreading creates dust

Typical install for a 10–25 m² front garden takes about 1–2 days depending on ground conditions and access; jobs run longer if large roots, drainage repairs or restricted vehicle access are involved

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• does the quote include membrane, edging and disposal

• how many tonnes of slate do you estimate and what is the price per tonne or per m²

• will you remove turf/soil and what are the disposal charges

• how many operatives and how many days will the work take

• do you need vehicle access for deliveries and will you arrange skips if needed

• what guarantee do you offer on workmanship and materials

How to Avoid Surprises

• clear access, remove pots and ornaments and mark any fragile features

• reserve a parking space or agree a delivery/drop‑off point with your tradie

• point out underground services, drainage runs and any lamp columns before work starts

• agree finish level and edge detail and get this in writing in the quote

• confirm who arranges and pays for skips, permits or verge parking charges

• expect short weather delays during wet spells that can affect compaction and finish
