Scope of Works

• Inspect plants and existing hedge lines and agree desired shape and height

• Prune hedges and shrubs to shape, including thinning, topping and height reduction where needed

• Remove dead, diseased or crossing branches and cut back perennials and ornamental grasses

• Tidy borders, clear leaves and sweep paths and driveways to remove cuttings

• Collect, bag and remove green waste or load into customer‑provided compost area or skip

• Use appropriate PPE, ladders or pole tools for safe working and protect fences, walls and nearby services

Typical Cost

Time on Site

Small tidy or light hedge trim typically takes 1–2 hours; a medium front garden or a hedge 2–3 m high usually takes 3–5 hours; large or heavily overgrown jobs can take a half day to a full day. Factors that extend time include wet or frozen ground, need for ladder work or a two‑person crew, protected wildlife or nesting birds, narrow access or parked cars, and large volumes of arisings requiring skip hire.

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• Are you insured and can you show public liability cover?

• Will the quote be fixed price and does it include disposal of arisings?

• Do you charge per hour or per job and how is overtime handled?

• Will you bring a second person or specialist kit for high hedges or ladder work?

• How will green waste be removed and is that included in the price?

• Do you need confirmation about nesting birds or protected plants before starting?

How to Avoid Surprises

• Ensure clear access to the front garden and move vehicles off the drive

• Point out buried services, gas meters and fragile walls before work starts

• Tell the tradie about nesting birds, veteran trees or protected species

• Agree where arisings will be left and whether you want them removed or composted

• Secure pets and let neighbours know if ladders will be used close to boundaries

• Confirm parking, permits and whether the job needs road access or a skip
