Scope of Works

• Inspect the garden and agree priority areas for maintenance and repairs

• mow, edge and clear grass cuttings and tidy borders

• trim and reduce hedges, prune shrubs and remove deadwood

• repair minor hard landscaping: reset paving, replace broken slabs, fix decking boards and replace fence posts

• clear drains and gullies, remove weeds from joints and treat persistent moss or weed growth

• use appropriate PPE and handle contaminated waste or pest issues safely and remove green waste off site where agreed.

Routine maintenance visits typically take 1–3 hours. Small repairs such as a single fence post or a paving reset usually take 2–6 hours. Larger repairs or tree work can take a day or more. Factors that extend time include poor access, inclement weather, unexpected rot or buried services and additional repairs found on site

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• are you insured for public and employer's liability and can you supply certificates?

• can you provide references or photos of similar garden repairs and maintenance work

• will you provide a written quote that itemises labour, materials and disposal costs

• how will you manage green waste and will you remove it from site or compost it here

• do you need any permits for tree work or to place a skip/scaffold and who arranges them

• what guarantee do you offer on repairs and newly planted items?

How to Avoid Surprises

• check gate widths, steps and path surface for access and tell the tradie about narrow/difficult routes

• reserve close parking or a loading space to avoid delays and extra labour time

• point out underground services, irrigation lines and drainage runs before any digging

• agree where waste will go and whether the tradie will remove it or you will arrange a skip

• keep pets and children away from the work area and store any fragile garden items

• confirm any working‑at‑height requirements, neighbour notifications or building control approvals needed for major tree or retaining‑wall work
