Scope of Works

• Inspect border and agree desired look and any protected plants

• remove weeds (including perennial roots) and clear self-seeded saplings

• prune shrubs and cut back herbaceous perennials to season-appropriate height

• edge lawn and redefine border line with spade or mechanical edger where needed

• top up soil and add compost or mulch; plant or replace small perennials/shrubs if requested

• collect and remove green waste, sweep paths and leave borders tidy; tradesperson to wear gloves and eye protection where needed

Most routine border maintenance takes 1–3 hours; larger beds or new planting schemes can take 1–2 days. Factors that extend time include heavy overgrowth, poor access, wet weather, need to source specific plants, and discovering root or soil issues.

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• do you supply plants and materials or should I source them

• are you insured (public liability) and can you provide proof

• how do you charge — hourly, per task or fixed quote, and does the call‑out count

• what happens to green waste and is disposal included in the price

• do you use herbicides or other chemicals and can you avoid them on request

• will you need access to water or electricity and are there parking restrictions I should know about

How to Avoid Surprises

• clear a parking space or confirm where tradesperson can park

• mark any plants you want kept and point out irrigation or buried cables

• agree disposal method and location for cuttings before work starts

• tell the tradie about pets and secure them during work

• confirm any communal or local restrictions (flat developments, conservation areas)
