Most routine garden maintenance visits take 1–3 hours; small or tidy front gardens are quicker while larger or overgrown gardens, tree work, required machinery or bad weather can extend to a half or full day

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• are you insured and can you provide a copy of public liability insurance?

• what exactly is included in the quote and what would be extra charged separately?

• will you remove green waste and are disposal charges included?

• do you use herbicides or pesticides and can you supply COSHH information?

• will you need any machinery or a second operative and what extra cost does that add?

• are any works likely to need planning, tree protection orders or neighbour permission?

How to Avoid Surprises

• ensure clear access and parking for a van and any hired machinery

• point out gates, steps, narrow paths and any concealed trip hazards

• mark buried services, sprinkler heads and access panels before work starts

• secure pets, move vehicles and clear children’s toys from working areas

• confirm who supplies materials and whether any specialist permits are needed for trees
