Scope of Works

• Inspect garden access, note hazards (slopes, sheds, fences)

• Mow lawn and strim edges

• Trim hedges and prune small shrubs

• Weed beds and remove surface roots

• Collect and remove green waste to client-supplied compost, garden waste sack or skip

• Sweep patios and paths and perform light pressure washing where agreed

• Remove small saplings and grub out roots (may incur extra charge)

Time on Site

Most small tidy-ups take 1–3 hours; hedge trimming or medium clearances 3–6 hours; larger clearances, turfing or landscaping can take 1–2 days. Time increases with overgrown vegetation, poor access, wet weather, discovery of buried waste or need for extra labour or machinery

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• Are you insured for public liability and can you provide certificates

• What exactly is included in the quote and what would be charged as an extra

• How will you dispose of green waste and are tip/skip costs included

• Do you provide your own tools and water/electricity or do you need access to mains

• Will chemicals or herbicides be used and what PPE/precautions do you follow

• Can you provide a written start date, estimated completion and payment terms

How to Avoid Surprises

• Ensure clear access and a place to park close to the work area

• Secure or remove pets and cover fish ponds or water features

• Mark known underground services and tell the trader about buried waste or asbestos suspicion

• Agree waste removal method and where cuttings will be left if not taken away

• Check for building or estate rules about working hours, noise and skips on public land
