Scope of Works

• Inspect hedge for height, species, dead wood and nesting birds

• Cut tops and sides to the agreed height and shape using hand tools and powered shears

• Reduce overspill from fences, paths and drives and cut back growth from walls

• Remove and collect arisings to garden waste bags or a chipper and load for disposal

• Tidy base and edges and clear trimmings from paths and borders

• Wear PPE and use safe access methods for high sections

Most domestic hedge cuts take 1–3 hours for a single garden hedge; long runs, very tall hedges or jobs that need scaffolding/MEWP can take a day. Poor access, dense ivy, nesting birds or wet weather may extend the time

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• Do you include removal and disposal of arisings and is it charged separately

• What is your hourly rate and is there a minimum call‑out fee

• Are you insured and do you carry public liability cover

• Have you worked with this hedge species and can you advise on maintenance frequency

• Will you check for nesting birds and what timing do you recommend

• Do you need access to water or electricity and where should we park vehicles

How to Avoid Surprises

• Confirm access and short‑term parking for the truck or van

• Clear cars, lawn furniture and ornaments from the working area

• Point out boundary lines and any underground services near the base of the hedge

• Agree waste disposal method and where arisings will be left or taken away

• Tell the tradie about restricted access, gates, steps or low wires

• Mention if the property is in a conservation area or covered by tree protection orders
