Scope of Works

• survey the extent of ivy growth on external walls, roofs, gutters and window surrounds

• cut and remove ivy stems from masonry, taking care not to rip bricks or render

• trim and cut back roots and ground runners and offer optional regrowth treatment where requested

• clear gutters, downpipes and rooflines of plant debris and check for blocked outlets

• remove and responsibly dispose of arisings, plus tidy the area and clear green waste

• inspect for fabric damage (loose mortar, displaced tiles, compromised wall ties) and recommend repairs

• use PPE and take precautions for birds, wasps, mould and other contamination risks

Most domestic single‑elevation ivy removals take 2–6 hours; larger properties, multiple elevations or jobs requiring scaffolding can take 1–2 days. Factors that extend time include working at height, dense roots and runners, masonry repairs, nesting birds or wasp nests and the need for specialist access

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• do you remove the root system or do you cut at ground level and treat regrowth?

• will scaffolding, cherry picker or mobile tower be needed and how will it be charged?

• can you confirm your public liability insurance and waste carrier licence?

• how will you protect nearby plants, paving, fascias and windows during removal?

• do you recommend chemical treatment to prevent regrowth and what precautions are needed for children and pets?

How to Avoid Surprises

• provide clear access to affected walls and a level area for tools and a vehicle

• book parking or tell the tradie about local restrictions and permit requirements

• flag fragile areas (conservatory roofs, loose tiles) and tell the tradie about internal cavity access

• check for nesting birds or wasp nests and arrange work outside nesting season if required

• confirm who arranges scaffolding or access hire and whether neighbours need notice for high‑level work
