Scope of Works

• mow lawn to agreed height and collect or box clippings

• trim and shape hedges, remove overhang and tidy faces

• strim edges and around fences, paths and borders

• remove arisings, chip where agreed and sweep hard surfaces

• inspect for pests, disease and advise on reseeding or fertiliser

• leave site tidy and take green waste off-site unless arranged otherwise

Time on Site

Most routine visits take 1–3 hours; small lawns and low hedges 30–60 minutes, medium gardens 1–3 hours and large or high hedges with waste removal can take a full day. Time increases with hedge height and density, difficult access, wet ground, requirement for scaffolding or specialist hire, and extra operatives for rapid turnaround. Operatives will use PPE and may cordon areas when using machinery

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• are you insured for public liability and employee liability and can you provide certificates?

• do you include green waste disposal or is that charged separately?

• how do you charge — per hour, per job or per linear metre for hedges?

• what equipment will you use and will you need to bring a chipper or hire scaffolding?

• can you give references or photos of recent similar jobs?

• will you protect borders, shrubs and paved areas and how will you manage access for vehicles?

How to Avoid Surprises

• confirm parking and access for vans and where operatives can load out arisings

• tell the trader about boundary lines, protected trees or conservation rules

• clear vehicles and fragile items from working areas and secure pets

• agree beforehand who takes green waste and where it will be left or removed to avoid extra trips

• advise if there are buried services, irrigation lines or uneven ground that could affect machinery use
