• weed beds, borders and hard surfaces and apply weedkiller if requested

• plant seasonal bedding and replace failed plants as agreed

• spread mulch or top up compost and soil where needed

• collect and remove green waste and take to a disposal point

• inspect for pests, diseases and hazards and report any issues

Most regular maintenance visits take 1–3 hours for a small to medium domestic garden; larger properties, heavy pruning or dense overgrowth can take 3–6 hours or more

• are you insured for public liability and accidental damage?

• do you supply materials and plants or should I provide them?

• how do you charge for disposal of green waste and are skip costs included?

• will you use herbicides or pesticides and can you provide product details and COSHH info?

• how many gardeners will attend and do you have references or photos of similar jobs?

• what is your cancellation and bad-weather policy and how do you handle additional work found on site?

How to Avoid Surprises

• ensure gates are unlocked and staff have clear access to the garden

• leave a parking space or inform the tradie about permit restrictions

• secure pets and remove delicate pots or garden ornaments

• confirm availability of water and outdoor power if needed

• tell the tradie about tree preservation orders, boundaries or underground services

• agree payment method and get a simple written quote to avoid scope creep
