Scope of Works

• Inspect rockery for loose stones, erosion, drainage and plant health

• Remove invasive weeds and pull roots; spot treatment available

• Prune and tidy alpines, perennials and remove dead material

• Re-bed or reset loose stones and repair small retaining walls

• Top up soil, grit or mulch and replace plants as agreed

• Use PPE (gloves, eye protection) and control dust/moss where needed; dispose of arisings

Most routine rockery maintenance takes 2–4 hours; partial rebuilds or large stone moves can take 1–3 days. Time increases with poor access, heavy stone removal, need for hired machinery, protected wildlife constraints or adverse weather.

• Do you have experience with rockery stonework and can you provide examples or references?

• Will you re-use existing stone or source matching stone and what are the extra costs?

• How will you manage drainage and erosion on the slope and what guarantees do you offer?

• What is included in disposal and will skip or haulage charges be on top?

• Are you insured for public liability and do you carry plant insurance for machinery use?

• What warranty do you provide for stonework and for plant establishment?

How to Avoid Surprises

• Clear an area for materials and tool storage and agree a nearby parking space

• Tell the tradesperson about access constraints (narrow gates, steps, low walls) beforehand

• Confirm any protected plants or nesting birds; seasonal restrictions can affect timing

• Check if mains power is needed for tools or whether hire will be required for plant

• Keep pets and children away from the work area and agree where cleaned stones or waste will be left
