Typically 1–4 hours for an average suburban front or back garden; larger properties or long, high hedges can take a full day or more. Factors that extend time include dense overgrowth, restricted access, need for scaffolding and additional requests such as stump removal

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• do you have public liability insurance and can I see a copy

• will you dispose of green waste or should I arrange council collection

• how many operatives will attend and how long do you expect the job to take

• will you need ladders or scaffolding and how will you manage working at height

• can you provide a written quote that includes disposal and any extras

How to Avoid Surprises

• clear a working area and ensure gates are unlocked for access

• move vehicles from driveways and agree parking for the team van

• point out buried services, irrigation and cables before work starts

• arrange pet containment and notify neighbours if noise or access disruption likely

• agree where arisings will be left and whether you want them removed

• confirm any council or leasehold rules on hedge trimming and working times
