Scope of Works

• Survey trees and hedges and confirm species, size and health

• Advise on works required: crown reduction, crown lifting, pollarding or full removal

• Remove selected trees using ropes/climbing or mechanical access as appropriate

• Trim and shape hedges, cut back overhangs and tidy clippings

• Stump grinding and removal where requested and safe to do so

• Chip arisings for mulch or load and remove to green waste; leave agreed logs on site

• Check for nesting birds and other protected species and use PPE following arboricultural standards

Hedge trimming (10–20 m) typically 1–3 hours; small tree removal 2–6 hours; medium tree with stump grinding and clearance usually 1 day; large or complex removals with traffic management may take 1–2 days

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• Are you insured for public liability and employer's liability and can you provide certificates

• Do you hold arboricultural qualifications and can you provide references for similar jobs

• Will you check for nesting birds or other protected species and advise on timing or mitigation

• What is included in the quote: stump grinding, chipping, disposal and site clearance

• What access, parking or road closures will you need and who arranges any permits

• Can you supply a risk assessment/method statement and confirm the team size and equipment used

How to Avoid Surprises

• Give clear vehicle access and reserve parking close to the work area

• Mark underground services and tell the contractor about nearby power lines

• Confirm if trees are subject to TPOs or in a conservation area and share paperwork

• Arrange neighbour notice if work affects shared boundaries or requires road access

• Clear pets and children from the work zone and secure gates

• Agree waste removal, final tidy and payment milestones before work starts
