Scope of Works

• Inspect trellis, fixings and anchor points for rot or damage

• Prune dead, crossing and overlong stems back to healthy growth

• Reduce length of vigorous climbers to manageable ties and shape

• Thin congested growth and tie new shoots to the trellis using horticultural ties

• Remove and dispose of cuttings and green waste; sweep the working area

• Check and tighten or replace fixings and report rotten posts or structural faults

Most domestic trellis pruning jobs take about 1–4 hours on site depending on trellis length, plant vigour and access; small single-panel jobs are at the lower end, while overgrown or multi-panel jobs, or those needing scaffold, take longer

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• Do you have experience pruning the specific plant (rose, clematis, vine) on a trellis

• How will you access high sections and do you need scaffolding or a lift

• What is included in the quote for labour, materials and disposal and is VAT included

• Will you remove green waste and take it to the tip or leave it for composting

• Are you insured for working at height and can you provide a public liability certificate

How to Avoid Surprises

• Clear a safe work area and move fragile pots or furniture away

• Confirm parking or loading space close to the garden for wheelie bins or green sacks

• Advise of neighbours or communal rules if scaffold or ladders will overhang boundaries

• Point out bees, preservation orders, wires or hidden services before work starts

• Ask the tradie to bring PPE and confirm waste disposal method
