Scope of Works

• Survey site to identify weeds, invasive saplings and trees needing work

• hand weeding and hoeing of beds, borders and around shrubs

• remove weeds from patios and paving using mechanical scraping or agreed chemical treatment

• prune and shape shrubs and small trees, remove deadwood and thin crowns where safe

• cut back overhanging branches and crown lift to improve clearance, using ladders/ropes or specialist access if required

• collect, chip or bag green waste and remove from site or load to skip as agreed

• check for protected species, nesting birds or bats and stop work if found

Most small weeding and light shrub trimming jobs take 1–3 hours; medium jobs with small tree pruning take 3–6 hours; larger tree work or removal can take 1–2 days Factors that extend time include restricted access, tree height, need for specialist kit, protected tree checks, nesting season and adverse weather

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• are you insured for tree work and public liability

• what qualifications or experience do you have with tree surgery and pesticide use

• will you check for tree preservation orders or planning requirements and handle any permits

• how will you dispose of green waste and is disposal included in the quote

• what safety measures, PPE and working-at-height equipment will you use

• can you provide a written quote, start date and any likely extra costs

How to Avoid Surprises

• ensure clear access and parking for vans, trailers and skips

• point out boundaries, drives, cables and water taps before work starts

• tell the tradie about nesting birds, bats or any protected trees on site

• agree in writing what is included (disposal, chip use, herbicides) and where waste is left

• secure pets and keep children away from work area while work is carried out

• allow extra time and budget for council permits or specialist equipment if required
